WMBM Cares, Inc. is dedicated to strengthening under-served communities by developing and empowering next-generation leaders, improving mental wellness, investing in education through scholarships for youth, and advocating for the elderly. We are focused on giving back to the community through a wide variety of programs that help strengthen the mind, body, and soul.

Our Leadership
Bishop Victor T. CurryFounder | President | Executive Director
Bishop Curry is the Founder and Senior Pastor / Teacher of New Birth Baptist Church in Miami, Florida where he has served for over 25 years. He is an exemplary pastor, preacher, teacher, author, and social activist who epitomizes focused leadership. Since 1995, Bishop Curry has served as President and General Manager of WMBM Media Group, formerly known as New Birth Broadcasting Corporation, home of Gospel AM1490 WMBM, widely recognized as the local, national and global “go to” media outlet for community information and inspiration. Bishop Curry served as a Board Member Emeritus of the National Action Network, President of the Miami Dade Branch of the NAACP, and the Founding Moderator of The Progressive Kingdom Baptist Association of the Florida General Baptist Convention, Master of Ceremonies at the 50th Anniversary March on Washington, and served as a panelist for the 2013 Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Legislative Conference. Bishop Curry has been the beneficiary of countless awards, each authenticating his genuine philanthropy, altruism, and distinction. Bishop Curry received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Community Clinical Psychology in 1986 at Florida Memorial University in Miami. He completed graduate studies at Jacksonville Baptist Theological Seminary in Jacksonville, Floridawhere he received his Master of Ministry Degree in 2004. Bishop Curry also received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Saint Thomas Christian College in 2004 and received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Florida Memorial University in 2010. Bishop Curry has three beautiful daughters, two granddaughters and a grandson. |
Reverend Dr. Alphonso Jackson, Sr.Chairman of the Board of Directors
Rev. Dr. Alphonso Jackson is the Senior Pastor / Teacher of Second Baptist Church in Miami, Florida where he has served for over 20 years. Rev. Jackson served as Youth Pastor for New Shiloh Baptist Church from 1981 – 1984. In 1985 he became the Senior Pastor of St. James Baptist Church in Coconut Grove, Florida where he served for over 16 years. Rev. Jackson also served as an instructor in the Miami-Dade County Public School System for over 20 years where he was honored in 1993 as Teacher of the Year. As a noted community leader, Rev. Jackson currently serves as a member of the Miami-Dade County Community Relations Board, President of the Richmond Heights Community Alliance, Chairman of Second Baptist Church Community Development Corporation, and serves on the Children’s Learning Center Board of Directors. Rev. Jackson earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education in 1980 at Olivet Nazarene University in Kankakee, Illinois. He completed graduate studies at Florida Memorial College in Miami, and Advanced Seminary studies at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia. He received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Saint Thomas Christian College in 2004 and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Biblical and Theological Studies at Knox Theological Seminary in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Rev. Jackson is married; he and his wife have two adult children and two grandchildren. |
Elder Teresa McWilliamsAsst. Executive Director | CFO
Elder McWilliams has over 30 years of experience in accounting and finance for publicly traded, privately held, and non-profit organizations. Teresa has held the CFO, VP of Finance and Administration, Board member, Board Chair, corporate Secretary, and business owner positions with various size companies. Her background includes working in public accounting, assisting start-up entrepreneurial companies, serving as CFO to three public companies, raising capital, and performing financial turnarounds. As an entrepreneur, business owner, and analytical C-level finance officer, Teresa has started and run companies as well as taken existing companies and improved their processes, controls, procedures, and profitability. Her diverse background has given her a depth of knowledge to resolve issues not only in the financial arena, but to assist business owners in analyzing and improving all areas of their operations. In addition to WMBM Cares, Elder McWilliams serves on the Board of Directors of a non-profit organization involved in community development and human services. A widow, mother of seven, and grandmother, Teresa is also an associate pastor at New Birth Baptist Church in Miami, FL. She leads a ministry for widows as well as ministering to women and girls of all ages. |
In Memory of Julie Curry-ReidPrior to founding WMBM Cares, Ms. Julie Curry-Reid served at the Broward County Sheriff’s Office for over 30 years in many different capacities. As a Community Job Development Coordinator for the Human Resources Department for BSO, Julie established and maintained a job placement program for inmate reentry, managed all marketing of the program, and met with business and industry leaders and job training specialists.
Over the years, Julie owned and operated several small businesses in various industries including fashion and beauty, tourism, and a non-profit bicycle safety program for children called “Lo’s Corner”. She worked as a part-time sales associate at AM 1490 WMBM from 1995 until her passing. Ms. Reid, a founding member of New Birth Baptist Church, also served many years as a Trustee and the Director for the church’s “Wisdom Ministry”, an outreach and support ministry for the senior and elderly congregants and community members. Julie graduated from Barry University of North Miami, Fl where she earned a BA degree in Business Administration. She is survived by her son Jamal Ashley and predeceased by her son Lorenzo Maddox who passed away tragically in April 1997, in a bicycle traffic accident, at the age of 10. |
